We Scare Hunger Food Drive supports Elliot Lake Food Bank

Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion School in Elliot Lake hosted a ‘We Scare Hunger’ Food Drive during the month of October.

Vice-principal Nadia Zanatta says members of the school’s God Squad created flyers and a commercial to kick off the campaign to create awareness.

She says over 70 students and staff contributed adding the positive actions reflect the theme of Catholic Education this year: renew, rebuild, and restore.

Zanatta says nine large boxes of non-perishable items were collected and a virtual field trip with the food bank was also held.

“Grade 1/2 Teacher, Madame Frolick, arranged for the school to engage in a virtual field trip with the Elliot Lake Food Bank. President of the Food Bank, Leonard Kutchaw, led the field trip and toured us around the building, explained the application process, and how packages are made for patrons” explains Zanatta.

Principal Stéphane Prévost adds, “I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Kutchaw, volunteer at the Food Bank, for taking the time to educate our students in his virtual tour of the facilities. Students were able to experience and witness this community outreach up close.”

And two leaders within the God Squad wanted to share their thoughts about this initiative:

“I like being a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes School GOD SQUAD because it makes me feel good knowing that I am helping people,” says Phoebe Medahbie, and “We collected all of this food to help those who didn’t have enough,” adds Lyric Squires, both Grade 5 students at Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion School.
