You can cook traditional indigenous recipes with this cookbook.
Sean Sherman is a chef from South Dakota. He’s Oglala Lakota and spent most of his career working in Italian and Japanese restaurants. It wasn’t until a few years ago that he realized he didn’t know any traditional indigenous recipes.
He dedicated a couple years of his life to studying with elders and knowledge keepers and then put out an award-winning cookbook.
It’s awesome. Sherman cooks only with natural, local ingredients like cedar, sassafras leaves, berries and more.
It’s such a great way to reclaim his heritage.
You can learn from him too. Here’s his recipe for cedar-braised bison.

Not sure where you’re going to find bison, but there’s plenty of cedar around here!
