Blind River council gives its firefighters a raise

Blind River council has given its firefighters a raise.

Fire Chief Ken Raymond says he requested the pay hike from council after carrying out a survey of similar communities and what they are paying their firefighters.

Before council approved the raise this past Monday, local firefighters were paid an hourly rate every three months with no on call hours paid.

The chief recommended the deputy chief be paid $28.00 an hour, captains $24.00, lieutenants $21.00, firefighters $19.00 and probationary firefighters $17.00.

He adds with the raises approved the funds will come out of the department’s overall budget.
