SPORTS – Espanola wins the Baxter Cup

It was an exciting win for Espanola winning the Baxter Cup, one of the longest-running friendly curling rivalries with Little Current.

Spokesperson Dennis Shepitka says the Espanola team was successful over Little Current 21-12 in the two-day event.

He says the first match was held in February 2020, but COVID led to holding off the event until we could play the second match Saturday.

The cup is named after George Baxter, a salesman who arrived in Little Current in 1910 and introduced the annual friendly two-game competition in 1915.
