Language Preservation Initiative to carry name association with the late Mary Ann Trudeau

Sagamok’s Language Preservation work will now carry with it the Indigenous name given to the late Mary Ann Trudeau, GAZHEE KAH KWE or “Woman who moves about fast”.
Spokesperson Robert Porter says during the October 12th Language Summit at the New Community Hall, a naming ceremony was held for Trudeau to be associated with the community’s language preservation strategies.
Chief Alan Ozawanimke said Trudeau sacrificed much for her community to do what she loved: share her language with generations of Sagamok children who attended her lessons.
Trudeau passed away in May of 2020.
She was 66.
