Espanola woman wants more lighting at cemetery following vandalism

An Espanola woman says she was heartbroken to have to call her friend and tell her that her daughter’s headstone was in ruins at the Espanola Cemetery.

Sarah Lamothe says she discovered quite a bit of vandalism had been done to several stones noting there is no lighting on the road nor in the cemetery itself.

Lamothe says she notified public works which did a great job cleaning up the damage as best they can, but she wonders what about replacing the headstones when there is no insurance coverage.

She wants the town to consider installing lighting and/or cameras at the site adding she is sure people would be willing to pay some funding towards protecting their loved ones.

Lamothe hopes to see the council address the issue soon, adding police authorities were also notified of the damage.
