Carol Hughes the MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing is again asking the feds not to kill a passenger subsidy for Algoma Central Railway. The Harper Tories announced the end of the subsidy to CN two months ago which used the grant to offset losses when running the service. Once the funding runs outs April 29th, it’s the end of the line for the service. However Hughes has given the government more petitions from Algoma residents asking the service be extended another year. The New Democrat says tourism in Algoma will suffer if the feds cancel the rail subsidy.
