Staff prepares for opening of new Espanola dual school

It has been years in the making but some of the staff of the new dual school in Espanola got their first glimpse into their new workspace this week.

École catholique La Renaissance will offer JK to Grade 12 while Sacred Heart School will offer JK to Grade eight as well as two separate daycares when the doors officially open on September 9th.

It has taken nearly four years to complete due to delays caused by the pandemic.

The new facility, which is estimated to have cost just over $25 million to construct is located on the former Sacred Heart School and St-Louis de France Catholic Church properties.

The joint facility will provide English and French programming to nearly 500 students within their own sections while sharing common spaces such as the gym.

École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest has been sharing space with Espanola High School and A.B. Ellis. Sacred Heart has been temporarily housed in the former AB Ellis building during construction.

A.B Ellis will take back the space in September while plans are in the works for their former school building to be demolished and turned into a parking lot.
