Resurfacing of some city roads coming up for council

Elliot Lake’s Public Services Committee will look at presenting a resolution to council for the resurfacing of several roads in the city.

Public Works director Darryl Halloch says the city received two tenders to carry out the roadwork.

He is recommending to the committee tonight to accept a tender for just over 455 thousand for Beamish Construction to resurface four roads: the Fire Tower Road, as well as Boychuck, South Bay and Pine Pond, a higher bid than expected.

Halloch adds he will also recommend the additional cost of just over 141 thousand come from the federal gas tax reserve.

He says the identified roads have all surpassed the 20-year mark and by using the recycled asphalt they have been able to reduce the project by well over $200,000.

If the committee agrees, the recommendation will be sent to council for final approval.
