Construction training dollars

Provincial funding is being provided to train 645 people in northern Ontario for construction jobs, prioritizing those in remote First Nations and Indigenous communities.

Over 580 thousand dollars is going towards the training of 20 people at NorCat’s training centre in Thunder Bay, with free lodging and transportation.

The other project sees the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers receives 467-thousand dollars to develop a virtual training centre for 625 electrical workers.

Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton says these projects will prepare people for in-demand jobs in the construction sector.

McNaughton says the jobs include heavy equipment operator and electrical trades.
