Espanola council is reviewing the proposed trailer licencing bylaw for its next meeting.
Last night council reviewed the bylaw and members raised questions about sheds, portable garages and temporary housing during house construction and how the bylaw would handle those concerns.
Staff will research the inquiries and bring back their recommendations.
The bylaw proposes anyone who uses a trailer on their property in Espanola will have to pay an annual licence fee of $1,000 and no one will permit a trailer to be used for temporary human habitation on any town property from December 1st to March 31st of the following calendar year.
At this time, there are only two exceptions; trailers located on a lot with a primary residential use are permitted to be used as an accessory use on a temporary basis for up to five days without obtaining a licence and recreation vehicles stored on a property will not be affected by the bylaw.
However, council has indicated they would like the temporary basis to be ten rather than five days, which will also require an additional amendment under the Zoning Bylaw.
Council gave the bylaw its first reading and is expected to pass the bylaw at the next meeting.
