New gazebo under construction

Sellers Beach in Blind River is a busy place these days with the construction of a new gazebo.

Plans have been in the works for well over a year to build the Bea Jensen Memorial Gazebo in memory of a long-time local volunteer who passed away last year.

According to her obituary, Bea’s many years as a teacher at St. Joseph in Blind River left a mark on each and every child she taught.

She was supportive of and very active in her community.

She was involved with numerous organizations including NSHN-Blind River Foundation/Auxiliary/Board member, Rotary, Golden Birches Terrace Council, Union Representative for AEFO, Paroisse Ste-Famille church committee member, canvasser for Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Foundation and Kidney Foundation.

Her greatest love and passion was organizing the Blind River Senior Games. Bea was available and always “just a phone call away”.

To her family she was a great cook and baker and she looked forward to every family event.

Her devotion to her family as well as helping others was monumental and she seemingly never grew tired of giving of herself.

Algoma Community Living donated $5,000 which was matched by Cameco and with private donations, the $32,000 needed was raised to build the gathering place.

Volunteers and friends of the family are building the structure, which will also be accessible for wheelchairs and walkers.

Completing the project will depend on the weather and the volunteers but is expected to be finished soon.
