Central Manitoulin council releases rejected offer to retrofit Old Mindemoya School

Central Manitoulin council has made the offer of a Sudbury-based company to retrofit Old Mindemoya School public on its website.

The document details the stipulations of Canadian Building Incorporated’s offer to repurpose the Mindemoya Old School for up to eight-unit seniors’ apartments.

A town sub-committee recommended to council to reject the offer and council supported that rejection, but did not state their reasons why.

Company representatives were not in attendance to provide more information on their proposal.

The Friends of the Old Mindemoya School are continuing their efforts to save the building and hope to present a business plan to council later this year.

Council is also looking at alternatives including demolition to build a community centre on the site.
