Vaccination clinics in the local area
Public Health Sudbury & Districts and Algoma Public Health are in the process of setting up vaccination clinics in their respective districts.
Starting today, youth aged 12 and over across Ontario who received their first dose are eligible to book online for an appointment to receive their second dose.
The accelerated second dose schedule for youth is helpful to meeting the provincial goal of ensuring youth are fully protected before the fall school entry.
Visit your individual health unit sites to book first or second doze appointments.
There are different stipulations in place for different vaccine types, so the public must visit their respective health unit sites to book their appointments.
PUBLIC HEALTH SUDBURY & DISTRICTS
Youth aged 12 and over across Ontario who received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine more than 28 days ago are eligible to book online for an appointment to receive their second dose. Those who book online must pay attention to the age eligibility noted for clinics. If a youth aged 12-17 books into an 18+ (Moderna) clinic, their appointment will need to be rescheduled.
Additionally, and effective immediately, youth aged 12 and over in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts can attend a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic to receive their second dose. Youth are eligible for the walk-in clinics if their first dose was more than 21 days ago (for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine). The online booking system is restricted to dose intervals of 28 days or more.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts is also reminding everyone that with the provincial decision to accelerate COVID-19 mRNA (Pfizer or Moderna) doses, all second dose appointments currently scheduled at a Public Health clinic on or after July 12 in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts are cancelled and need to be rebooked, with limited exceptions. Anyone who has already rebooked their accelerated appointment is not affected by the cancellations.
Over the coming weeks, Public Health will explore enhanced transportation options to clinics as part of efforts to reduce barriers to immunization.

To book online visit covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine or call 705.674.2299 (toll-free: 1.800.708.2505), between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. this weekend, for an appointment.

Public Health is continually monitoring and adjusting our approaches to be able to offer COVID-19 vaccines. Check phsd.ca/COVID-19/vaccine-clinics for the most up-to-date vaccination options, including additional walk-in clinic opportunities.
Of note, vaccination locations have also changed to Manitoulin Secondary School on Manitoulin Island and to Espanola High School in Espanola.

ALGOMA HEALTH UNIT

Eligible individuals must be age eligible at the time of appointment.
Is your child between the age of 12 – 17?Â
If so, they are eligible to pre-register for their COVID-19 vaccine appointment. Youth aged 12-17 and their siblings, parents or caregivers who have not yet received a first dose of vaccine are eligible to pre-register. Household members must also be 12+ to be included as eligible to receive immunization.
Pre-registration means that you will be contacted with an appointment for the entire family to get immunized together.

In the Algoma region, if you received your first dose of vaccine at the COVID-19 Community Vaccine Hub at GFL Memorial Gardens you will receive information directly using the email you provided when you booked your first appointment. If you provided only a phone number, someone will reach out to you directly. Eligibility is based on when you received your first dose.
If you booked your first appointment from one of the Family Health Teams in the Algoma District, including the Elliot Lake Health Team, they will call you directly to schedule your second dose appointment. You are not required to call to schedule your next appointment.
A look at the local numbers …
Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting four new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, all in the Greater Sudbury area.
Considering resolved cases, there are now only nine active cases within the Sudbury & Manitoulin Districts.
Health Sciences North is reporting seven admitted patients, one positive and six waiting for test results.
None of the individuals are in intensive care.
And Algoma Public Health is no longer providing daily reports since they have had no new cases and all previous cases were resolved as of last Friday.
Travel and our borders …
Our borders begin a cautious reopening today.
Canadians and permanent residents who are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 will now be able to avoid the 14-day quarantine when they arrive back home as long as they have proof of a negative coronavirus test within three days of their arrival.
They’ll have to use the Arrive-Can app or website to file their information before they arrive.
However foreign citizens are still barred from entering the country, no matter their vaccination status.
The current closure of our border with the U-S is to expire July 21st and the federal government says it hopes to have more details about a further easing of restrictions before then.
