Elliot Lake City Council has unanimously voted in favour of submitting a Community Safety and Well Being Plan for approval to the Ontario government.
Special Projects Manager, Steve Antunes told council the plan involves several partners including East Algoma OPP, the Children’s Aid Society of Algoma, the Counselling Centre of East Algoma and Elliot Lake Secondary School.
He says it will be aimed at both seniors and youth helping those who are isolated and/or in need of recreational diversion, but simply do not have the funds to pay for it.
He adds mentorship program would also be used to tie the two vulnerable populations together and its administration would be overseen by the city.
The submission for the grant will now be forwarded to the Solicitor General’s office for approval.
