The Western Manitoulin Community Garden in Gore Bay has won national recognition for a special project.
Spokesperson Sarah Earley says the group was one of five finalists in a contest held through the David Suzuki Foundation which focuses on environmental justice projects.
Their project was to create a natural play area for the kids in hopes of encouraging more young families to come to the community garden and to leverage food security.
Winners were selected through online voting and last night the foundation held its awards night.
Although the Manitoulin Island group did not win first place, they were honoured to be considered a finalist out of some 135 projects.
Members thank the public for their votes and continued support of the project.
