Fire bans include fireworks in most cases

Over the last week, The Moose has been reporting several total fire bans throughout the three districts of Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury.

However, local fire chiefs and police are concerned about fireworks.

Manitoulin OPP investigated what they were told were gunshots but turned out to be fireworks in a local community on Monday night.

Every municipality and First Nation is responsible for putting the bans in place and stipulating what is allowed and what is not in terms of brush burning, open fire pits and fireworks.

The public is responsible for calling their local town or band office to see what those stipulations are.

Most municipalities and First Nations are under a total fire ban at this time due to the extremely dry and hot conditions in the bush.

Information can also be accessed on individual municipal and First Nation sites.
