The COVID REPORT – A look at the local numbers and vaccinations moving forward

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting five new cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Sudbury area over the last three days.

Considering resolved cases, there are now 33 active cases within the health agency’s jurisdiction.

Health Sciences North reports there are 13 admitted patients, with six testing positive for the virus and seven waiting for test results.

There are five patients in the intensive care unit.

Algoma Public Health reported one new case of the coronavirus in the Elliot Lake area

Considering resolved cases, there are five active cases with three people in hospital

Of those in hospital, all are from outside the Algoma District, but are receiving care locally.

Provincially, the province recorded its lowest daily number of new COVID-19 cases since October yesterday (Sunday).

Ontario added 663 new cases.

It’s the seventh straight day under 1,000 have been reported.

Another ten people died with the death toll now at 8,854.

Over one million Ontarians have now been fully vaccinated.

 

Getting your second shot

Ontario is allowing more of its residents to book their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Those aged 70 and up and people who had a Moderna or Pfizer shot on or before April 18th can book their second appointment at a mass immunization clinic starting this morning.

The appointments can be made through the provincial booking system.

It comes as the province says it’s receiving an increasing supply of vaccines
