NOLUM formed to fight opioid crisis

The Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors are looking to Ottawa and Queen’s Park for action on the opioid crisis.
The group, which includes the Mayors of North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Timmins, and Thunder Bay, is writing to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford.
North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says they have two requests; one being a meeting with the PM and Premier, and the second is a national strategy on the crisis right across the country.
The mayors say a coroner’s report shows their cities as some of the highest when it comes to rates per 100,000 deaths related to opioid overdoses.
They also point out several interconnected issues that are involved like homelessness, mental health and addictions, and criminal activities.
