Today is REDress Day

Today is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Known as “Red Dress Day” across the country, communities across the North Shore are joining in honouring all Indigenous women.

Red dresses are hung in communities across the North Shore corridor including Sagamok, Massey and Webbwood to acknowledge the high rate of violence against Indigenous women and girls.

First Nations across Manitoulin Island and the corridor are also lighting Sacred Fires today and talking with community members.

Organizers are calling on the federal government to institute the calls for action of the national inquiry that concluded in 2019.
