Elliot Lake council moving forward on hub centre

A design for a new Elliot Lake’s Arts and Culture Hub has been accepted by Elliot Lake council, bringing it one step closer to reality.

At Monday night’s council meeting Special Projects Manager, Steve Antunes walked council through the designs with council approving the “2A” option which calls for facilities such as the museum, theatre, offices, gallery and more to all be built on one floor.

Antunes says the design saves money because there would be no need for elevators, stairs, and other features.
He adds according to the consultants’ report, the cost of the project is estimated at $12-point-three million dollars.

The city has $3 million in reserves for the project and will now apply for grant funding and other supports from the provincial and federal governments.
