Mantha says insurance hikes are hurting businesses

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha says small trucking and tourism businesses that are struggling to stay afloat in Northern Ontario are being weighed down by brutal insurance rates.

During question period yesterday, Mantha says he wants to see Premier Ford take action against insurance premiums that are killing businesses in Ontario.

Mantha told the legislature about local trucker, John Gregoire who told him after changing his truck, his insurance went up from $10,000 to $35,000 a year and he had no choice but to go work for a bigger trucking company.

MPP Guy Bourgouin’s has put forth a motion for a truck owner-operator strategy to tackle the truck driver shortage and increasing truck insurance costs, which will be debated at Queen’s Park next week.
