Patrie reinstated for council standing committees

After a year and a half of not sitting on any Elliot Lake standing committees, a councillor has been reinstated, but not after some fireworks.

Monday night Mayor Dan Marchisella presented a motion to have councillor, Chris Patrie, fully reinstated to serve on various council committees.

In his statement, Marchisella said Patrie was originally removed as part of the recommendation by the Integrity Commissioner regarding a breach of the Code of Conduct.

He says the council indicated a desire at the last meeting to reinstate Patrie to standing committees.

The decorum of the meeting was disrupted with Marchisella and Patrie both arguing back and forth about points of orders getting to the point where Marchisella asked for Patrie’s microphone to be shut down twice so he could continue with the business at hand.

That was not done.

The recorded vote was four to three supporting the motion.

Following that heated discussion, the council reappointed Patrie to the Finance & Administration Committee and Economic Development Committee.
