Espanola council is not pleased with the abuse of the new yard waste depot on Penage Road. Illegal waste was dumped overnight within a week of the site opening last month and as a result, the site was closed overnight.
The council accepted a recommendation for Public Works to install a third camera and to reinstate the hours 24 hours a day.
However, if there are any breaches, the hours will be restricted once again with the addition of some evening hours to accommodate the public.
Bylaw officer Richard Paquette attended last night’s meeting and says he will be presenting the council with a draft dumping bylaw at the next meeting, which would impose stringent fines on anyone caught dumping, not only at the site but anywhere in the Town of Espanola.
