Students take part in transition to secondary school activity
On Friday, April 9, before the start of the Spring break, the Chevaliers of École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) welcomed grade 8 students who will be making the transition to secondary school in September 2021.
During the morning, grade 8 students were able to participate in a variety of grade 9 courses such as Media Arts, English, French, Mathematics, Workshop and Science. As part of this secondary school exploratory day, they were able to discover their future secondary school by taking part in a treasure hunt. This activity was concluded with a lunch hosted by the school and prepared by Ms. Judy Page. It was a very pleasant morning full of surprises. We thank teacher Stephanie McGregor for organizing this day!
The school team and students are ready to welcome future Chevaliers who will join the large family of École secondaire Saint-Joseph next September!
Celebrating Holy Week Through Art
During Holy Week, grade 5 and 6 students at École catholique Georges Vanier (Elliot Lake) produced works of art to mark Easter. During the creation process, they were able to explore the technique of collage and the effect of shadow as part of the creation of beautiful masterpieces.
Nothing is more beautiful than the sound of the guitar
Ava Racette, a grade 8 student at École St-Étienne (Dowling), has been playing guitar since she was eight years old. Inspired by her cousin who takes pleasure in entertaining people with her love for music, Ava accompanies the École St-Étienne choir during all school celebrations. In short, Ava is the go-to person when the school requires musical accompaniment.
Strengthening school spirit, one virtual activity at a time
In order to continue to strengthen the school spirit and entertain its school community, the Student Parliament of Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) has found a way to have fun in the present virtual mode. Despite these difficult times, CND student leaders remain convinced that it is possible to use your imagination and design small, simple but fun activities. Thus, during their usual lesson taught in virtual format, CND students were encouraged to do so in the company of their house pet or favourite stuffed animal. This small gesture created a lot of comfort and humorous moments. The CND Student Parliament plans to meet again to identify new fun theme activities.
While learning from home, students take part in space adventure
Last week, during learning at home period, Junior and Senior Kindergarten students at École Alliance St-Joseph School (Chelmsford) were able to explore new concepts and take part in space adventure! They were excited to put on their astronaut suits and take part in the count-down launch of their rocket into space. During this fun and educational activity, students discovered constellations, meteorites and planets. Students are pursuing their learning at home and are having fun pursuing this fun-filled learning adventure from home until their return to school!
ÉSC Trillium students widen their vision of the world
Students enrolled in the hospitality course at École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) recently learned how to bake Challah bread. This brioche bread is served during Jewish religious festivals. Taking part in this learning and cultural activity offered students a great opportunity to practice their culinary knowledge while learning about one of the world’s religions, Judaism.
Saint-Joseph students discover old games
Students from École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) had a lot of fun discovering old historic games. Guided by their teacher Mr. Kevin Auger during the world history class, the students were able to fabricate the Mehen, Royal Ur, as well as the Dog and Jackal games. Afterwards, they were able to play some fun games while following the instructions! This history lesson was quite inclusive, informative and entertaining.
Rosaries for Easter!
In preparation for their participation in the living rosary activity organized by the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon, grade 6 students from École Saint-Joseph (Wawa) made their own rosary. Once completed, the rosaries were blessed by Father Michael of St. Monica parish. It was a great activity to prepare for Holy Week and Easter celebration.
A huge shoutout to Paul de la Riva for providing the photos of our Third Wave and the Kids special album. It has been pretty tough on the kids this year and we appreciate the extra effort made in helping us share in this part of our history as it relates to our youngest citizens.
