Hospitals partner for seamless electronic patient records

Elliot Lake’s St. Josephs General Hospital is joining 23 other North Eastern Ontario hospitals in improving its patient services through a new records management system known as The ONE.

The vision of The ONE is one patient, one record, one system using software known as Meditech Expense.

Meditech CFO Sanjeev Kumar says this facilitates the seamless movement of patient information to ensure high-quality health care is available at the right place, right time, and for the right caregiver within any of the 23 hospitals.

Hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson says the initiative is one of many that St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Manor and the Oaks are undertaking to transform their facilities into centers of excellence for patient care.

He adds the system is the foundation for other health information sharing initiatives with primary care, long-term care, community and home care, and other providers across the system, which will provide faster-integrated care for each patient no matter where they receive treatment.
