Public Health Sudbury & Districts is showing a sharp rise in local COVID-19 numbers for the period of seven days up to end of day Thursday, March 18, 2021.
There were no COVID-related deaths.
One hundred and two new cases screened positive for a COVID-19 variant of concern, which is 47% of the cases reported in this period.
Twenty-three outbreaks were active in the past week, including nine in local schools, three in a hospital, two in community congregate living settings, three in local workplaces, and one each in the following settings: a long-term care home, a retirement home, a shelter, a large multi-unit dwelling, a local recreational facility, and a restaurant.
Seven outbreaks were declared over in the past seven days, four in schools, one in a retirement home, one in a local recreational facility, and one in a community congregate living setting.
As of yesterday, Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting 41 new cases, 40 in Greater Sudbury, only one in the Sudbury District.
Close contact is believed to be the cause, but over 30 are still under investigation.
Considering resolved cases, the agency states there are 261 active cases.
Health Sciences North has also seen a rise in admitted patients.
Dealing with three outbreaks within the organization, the facility is also dealing with cases from the wider community.
They are now 53 admitted patients with 21 confirmed cases and 32 waiting for results.
Of those, there are now eight people in intensive care.
Algoma Public Health has also had a rise in cases over the last three days with 21 active cases of which three are people who do not reside in the jurisdiction but are either receiving treatment or are in self-isolation within the agency’s jurisdiction.
One person is in hospital.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been a total of 1,059 local cases of which 817 are resolved, and 15 people have died in our service area. Two hundred and ten have screened positive for a COVID-19 variant of concern (VOC), three of which have been confirmed as a VOC.
