Local Food Manitoulin looking for input

Establishing hubs for food production is just one of the goals for the Local Food Manitoulin project.

If you are connected to the local food movement on Manitoulin, public input is being sought on the design of a Mobile Community Food Hub model for the community of Mnidoo Mnis – Manitowaning.

This month, the team is presenting the conceptual project plans to the public and requesting feedback via a survey tool and one-on-one consultations with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

The proposed design includes a “home-base” facility featuring a commercial four-bay garage, work and training space, equipment and food storage areas and a semi-attached greenhouse. The garage will store a company pick-up truck and three enclosed cargo trailers to be used as mobile food units.

The food hub model also has three mobile branches: local food market, community kitchen and food processing trailer and butcher shop.

Anyone interested in providing input can find the link on our websites.
