Elliot Lake council approves expenditure for broadband study

Elliot Lake council has given its approval to hire a firm to inventory broadband in the cottage areas of the city.
Elliot Lake’s Manager of IT services, Robin Scott, told council Friday night Lloyd I.T. Business Solutions of Sudbury is familiar with the city-owned broadband system and is the ideal candidate to put together a hurry up grant proposal to the federal government, which must be submitted by Feb. 15.

Council agreed to approve $28,900 to hire the company to carry out an inventory of what is available and what is needed as part of the grant application process.

Council will review the final report next Monday and decide then whether to apply for the grant from the federal government.
