Elliot Lake council holds emergency meeting for new grader

Elliot Lake council had an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss buying a new Caterpillar grader for the city.

Public Works Director Darryl Halloch told council that the grader has been out of commission since mid-January and would need costly repairs with no guarantee those repairs would solve long-term problems.

Council decided to go with a new model and will purchase a 2021 grader in Timmins.

With the company buying the City’s older model as is, Elliot Lake will pay $315,000 plus applicable taxes for the new unit.

The money will be funded under the emergency procurement process.
