Fish planting project going well at Espanola school

Students of École secondaire catholique La Renaissance in Espanola are looking forward to Spring to plant thousands of trout eggs.

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon communication director Paul de la Riva says they partnered with the owner of Micro Hatcheries to set up an elaborate fish farming project for students.

He says the goal of the project is to educate the students about the importance of ecosystems and how they can play a role in helping ensure the population of fish in the local area.

The students will then continue to raise and observe some 10,000 trout eggs, which will be planted in local waterways once the warmer weather arrives.
