Vaccine arrives in Elliot Lake – 99-year-old says she is relieved

Residents at St. Joseph’s Manor in Elliot Lake have rolled up their sleeves for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, as the Long-Term Care Home received the vaccine on Wednesday.

Ninety-nine-year-old Julie Trowbridge, the oldest resident at the manor, was among the first to be vaccinated.

Trowbridge says she grew up in Sault Ste. Marie until 1951 when she moved to Spanish with her family adding she has lived through many historical events and for her, “COVID-19 has been the scariest thus far”.

Dr. Todd Spencer, the medical director at the facility, says they have spent the past year putting protective measures in place to keep the residents and staff of the home safe from the pandemic and everyone must remain vigilant until we are vaccinated.
