Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police chief charged with sexual assault

The chief of the Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police has been charged with sexual assault.

That’s according to Ontario Provincial Police, who says it received a complaint from an individual who says they were sexually assaulted by 44-year-old Terry McCaffrey in 2019.

McCaffrey joined the service as police chief in July 2018 following several years working with several Indigenous police services across the country.

Wiikwemkoong Chief Duke Peltier says they’re respecting the process set out by the OPP and the justice system and are offering support to both the tribal police services board and officers.
