Location finalized for new double school in Blind River

The Algoma District School Board has been given approval by the Ontario government to purchase 39 acres of land for a new school that will also house students of the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario in Blind River.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce made the announcement last week adding the government’s investment demonstrates the government commitment to Ontario schools, families, and their communities.

The land will be purchased for $480,000 to include elementary grades from junior kindergarten to Grade 12 or the Algoma board, junior kindergarten to Grade eight for the French language public school and a four-room child-care centre.

No final cost has been released yet, but the project was initially estimated at around $20-million dollars.

There will up to 455 student spaces and 64 new licensed child-care spaces constructed at 180 Youngfox Road with the project going to tender this Spring.
