The residents and staff of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home on Manitoulin Island will be the first in the Sudbury District to receive the COVID-19 vaccine with other homes on the Island expected to follow quickly.
Wiikwemkoong Chief Duke Pelter says he is pleased the facility will be among the first in the northeast to receive the vaccine adding he has been assured there will be enough for residents and staff.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts Medical Officer of Health Dr. Penny Sutcliffe says she is also thrilled with the news adding other homes are completing the paperwork for the imminent arrival of the vaccine.
Other long-term facilities on Manitoulin are expected to receive the vaccine by early next week.
