The Elliot Lake Fire Department was able to contain a fire in an apartment building to one unit early Sunday morning.
Fire Chief John Thomas says the fire crews were on the scene at 22 Mississauga Avenue shortly after 7:00 on Sunday and rescued one occupant who was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Thomas says the crew was able to contain the fire to the one unit with estimated damages at around $125,000.
He added the cause of the fire was determined to be the improper discarding of smoking materials.
