Heavy snow/rain mix possible for the Island

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Manitoulin Island

Heavy snow, possibly mixed with rain, arrives tonight.

A low pressure system will pass just south of Manitoulin Island tonight and give periods of snow and about 10 centimetres by Monday morning. The snow will begin early this evening and become heavy later this evening. Some rain may mix in with the snow overnight. The west end of the island may receive 8 to 10 centimetres however the east end may receive just over 10 centimetres of heavy wet snow by Monday morning.

Travel is expected to be difficult tonight and early Monday morning due to rapidly accumulating snowfall. Snowfall warnings are in effect north of the region, in Espanola, and a snowfall warning may be required for Manitoulin Island if 15 or more centimetres is expected tonight.
