The MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing has alarming numbers when it comes to fire deaths on First Nations.   New Democrat Carol Hughes says fire deaths are 10 times more likely to take place on a reserve than off reserve sites.  Hughes says there are several reasons for this including the feds not providing enough money for fire-fighting services on reserves.  Hughes says 600 First Nations share $26-million to fight fires and she adds that’s far from enough.  Hughes adds First Nations lucky enough to have a fire department, fight fires with out-dated and old equipment.
