Elliot Lake Standard building sold

A long-time newspaper in Elliot Lake will continue to produce its weekly publication, but it will no longer be housed in the building that housed it for decades.

Elliot Lake Standard managing editor Kevin McSheffrey says the building has been purchased by Joe Issa from southern Ontario who plans to turn it into a used car dealership and auto body shop.

The publication has been part of the community since 1957 originally housing its own print press, mail and newsroom, adds McSheffrey.

He adds it will continue to serve the Elliot Lake and North Shore area but having only two staffers in such a large building was impractical.

He and Carol Burman, the paper’s circulation manager will work out of their homes.
