A first round of bargaining has failed to produce a new contract for Registered Nurses at Algoma Public Health. Both sides will meet again May 20th and the 21st in an effort to hammer out a deal. Wages are a key issue, with the nurses’ union claiming the RN’s at Algoma Public Health are the lowest paid nurses in Ontario. Management says it wants a fair agreement for the nurses but it also has to be accountable to the public. When talks resume on the 20th, the nurses will hold an information picket at the health unit’s office in Sault Ste. Marie.
