Parliamentary Assistant to the Finance Minister, Stan Cho is confident in Ontario’s record 187-billion-dollar budget announced yesterday.
In an interview with Vista Radio, Cho says the budget will allow Ontarians to prosper after the pandemic.
Cho adds the lack of a provincial property tax increase will benefit small businesses across the province but did not touch on what it will mean for homeowners.
The province is expected to announce further plans to cut the deficit in March of next year.
Cho adds that job creation will create revenue for the province which will help cut into the 38-billion-dollar deficit that comes with the budget.
Meanwhile, Algoma-Manitoulin NDP MPP Mike Mantha says he is disappointed in the Ontario budget released yesterday.
He says Ford is not doing enough for hospital or education workers and staffing at long-term homes.
Mantha says while the Quebec government hired 10,000 additional PSWs, the Ontario government says new funding will be distributed over the next couple of years, but he stresses that money must be spent now during the COVID-19 pandemic, not by 2025.
He says more money is also needed for hospitals to maintain their efficiencies and staff.
Mantha adds the NDP is working on a bill right now that will also be asking for the Ford government to give concrete benchmarks for where and when dollars will be spent whether it is for education, health care or small businesses.
