Four more cases COVID-19 in the local area

Sudbury Public Health says there are three more cases in the Sudbury area while Algoma Public Health is announcing another in Sault Ste. Marie.

Of the Sudbury cases, two are being blamed on community spread while the third is due to close contact.

The Sault Ste. Marie’s case is related to international travel.

All four cases are self-isolating.

Canada’s chief medical officer of health says we can expect a sharp increase in the number of hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 in the days ahead.

Doctor Theresa Tam notes that those numbers usually trail an increase in new cases by at least a week.

The number of severe infections continues to rise across the country.

There was an average of almost 12-hundred people being treated in hospital, and 40 deaths per days, across the country over the past week.

Tam notes more outbreaks are occurring in community settings and gatherings.

The number of new coronavirus cases in Ontario dropped to 987 yesterday, down from Tuesday’s record high, but the number of deaths rose by 16 yesterday.
