Espanola council puts potential street name on a list

Espanola council has turned down a request to rename a street in town.
Janice Andrews, the daughter of Lawrence Doucette, asked council to consider renaming a street in his name in Espanola.

She told council her father had developed a parcel of land on the east side of Clear Lake and as a tribute to her father consider renaming Fournier Drive to Doucette Drive.

However, council did not agree citing that Fournier Drive was named in honour of past Councillor Fournier who served on council in the early 1990s.

Staff also pointed out changing the name would require a bylaw, legal registration of the Bylaw with the Land Registry office, a change in street signage and residents would have to change their address on any identification and mailings as well as modifications with Canada Post and 911.

However, council says they will add the Doucette name to a list they maintain for consideration if a new street name is needed in the future.
