Elliot Lake council to discuss lighting upgrades for airport

The director of Public Works in Elliot Lake will be strongly recommending the council spend some money on installing solar-powered LED lights at Elliot Lake Airport.

Darryl Halloch says a lighting study was carried out at the facility which found that the lighting system, which is linked with an underground cable system installed over 40 years ago, is no longer efficient with many lights no longer working.

Rather than repair and retrofit that system, he says solar-powered LED lights would not need any underground cables and transformers.  He adds the savings would cover the cost of batteries, which are certified by Transport Canada.

He will be recommending the council approve $316,400 and to approve entering a contract with Approach Navigation Systems Ltd. of Moncton, New Brunswick for the work to be carried out.

The meeting gets underway at 7:00 pm and will be live-streamed at elliotlake.ca
