A hearing period is underway for a cannabis retail store to be located at the Espanola Mall.
Town CAO Cynthia Townsend says the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is the licensing authority that requires a period of public notice for any proposed site to allow the municipality and/or the public to make submissions.
She adds the municipality chose not to opt-out of cannabis sales adding so long as the property is zoned commercial there is no requirement for the municipality’s approval.
The new shop, Bananas, has a hearing period which started September 12th and ends on September 26th.
Submissions can be made at www.agco.ca/content/cannabis-submissions and cannot be submitted anonymously. The deadline is 11:59 pm on September 26th.
