Community draws together to assist Espanola man

Supporters throughout the Espanola area are doing what they can to financially assist a well-known Espanola paramedic and volunteer who was involved in a serious motorcycle collision two weeks ago.

Chris Gillis of Espanola is well known, not only as a paramedic with Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services, but also has a long-time volunteer.

Just over two weeks ago, he was involved in a collision with a deer on Manitoulin Island while out on a weekend ride, which has left him as a paraplegic.

Family friend Kathy Yusko has set up a Go Fund Me to raise $35,000 to go towards supporting him in his rehabilitation and medical equipment, as well as travel costs his family is incurring in taking care of him.

As of press time, over half their goal had been reached.
