The City of Elliot Lake is warning the public they are not soliciting for funds of any nature when it comes to donations.
City CAO, Danial Gagnon says the city has become aware of a telephone scam where the caller says they represent the City of Elliot Lake and are soliciting for donations for a COVID-19 preparedness fund.
He says that is a fraudulent call and residents are warned not to share any personal information.
Gagnon emphasizes the city does not fundraiser for municipal purposes by phone or any other means.

He suggests anyone contacted should report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
