Rollbacks in Ottawa, Toronto and Peel Region

As expected, the provincial government is rolling back parts of Stage Three reopening plans in parts of the province reporting high coronavirus numbers.

Effective today, private gatherings will be limited to no more than ten people indoors, and 25 outdoors, in Toronto, Peel Region, and Ottawa.

People attending such events must also maintain proper physical distancing.

There are heavy fines, starting at ten-thousand dollars for organizers of events that violate the new rules.

And those who attend can be fined 750-dollars.

Premier Doug Ford says they’re sending a message to those he calls reckless and careless.

Large private gatherings, such as family get-togethers and weddings, have been identified by health officials as a major source of new COVID-19 infections in densely-populated areas.

The rules do not apply to locations such as restaurants and movie theatres, which have strict protocols in place.

A look at the numbers … upward swing

There were another 293 new cases of COVID-19 reported across our province yesterday, continuing an upward swing that began a month ago.

Almost two-thirds were reported in the three areas where social gathering limits are now being rolled back.

Health Minister Christine Elliott adds that 70 percent were found in people under the age of 40.

Three more deaths were also reported increasing the total to 28-hundred and 25.

Rents frozen in Ontario

The Ford government has introduced legislation that would freeze residential rents through 2021.

Premier Doug Ford says, with the coronavirus pandemic still raging, he doesn’t want families to worry about whether they’ll be able to afford to keep a roof over their heads.

The legislation would also extend the ban on commercial rental evictions until the end of October.

A grim milestone worldwide

A grim milestone has been passed, with more than 30-million cases of COVID-19 now being reported around the world.

The United States continues to lead the way, with more than 6.6-million infections.

Russia, the Czech Republic, and France all reported record-high infection numbers yesterday.

In Britain, further lockdown measures are being considered, which would include the closure of restaurants and pubs.

The number of new cases of coronavirus in the UK are doubling every week.
