Blind River preps for reopening arena – council is cautious

There are many residents in Blind River who are waiting for the word on the reopening of the Blind River Arena.

In a recent report to council, Facilities and Community Services Director, Karen Bittner, says the season is organized as well as it can be taking in the unique COVID-19 situation.

She adds tools are being shared by municipalities as well as leagues to ensure players, volunteers, and supports are as safe as possible.

Bittner says the town has received confirmation from several organizations including hockey and figure skating clubs, private parent bookings and non-resident groups needing ice.

As part of the reopening, there has been some reconstruction and sanitation stations place inside, as well as a redesign to ensure physical distancing.

With the rapid rise of what could be a second wave of COVID-19, council has asked for more updated information before it makes any decision on reopening the facility.

The matter will be discussed at the September 21st meeting of council.
