Elliot Lake council agrees to keep the cameras going

Elliot Lake Councillor Chris Patrie was successful in tabling a motion asking that the cameras keep rolling at all times when there’s a council session, whether it’s open or closed.

Under the usual practice, open council sessions are recorded, broadcast and live-streamed in the city hall council chamber.

Patrie asked for the single camera, which is used to cover closed session proceedings to start recording prior to council going into closed session, so nothing would be missed in the transition.

Patrie did not mention any names, but said there was an outburst made by a member towards another member as well as to staff.

His rationale is keeping the camera on will deter detrimental behaviour and ensure all of council and the staff are safe, protected, and not threatened or insulted.

Council concurred and passed the motion.
